NEUROSURGERY

BRAIN PROBLEMS AND BRAIN ATTACKS

Many headaches are due to neck problems, some from pinched nerves, many are misdiagnosed. Some headaches are symptomatic of other serious problems such as brain tumor, aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, etc. Neurological analysis will help determine the cause and possible plan of treatment, including management of stroke and related complications.

NECK AND BACK PROBLEMS

Thousands of people suffer from neck and back problems, sometimes unnecessarily. This could be due to the ailments of nerves, abnormalities in the neck or lower back, like herniated discs Herniated discs can be spontaneous or due to trauma or accidents. A neurosurgeon is uniquely trained and qualified to deal with those sensitive and delicate structures of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves.

MOVEMENT DISORDERS

Movement disorders such as Parkinson's Disease, Huntington's Chorea, and other malfunctions of brain cells may be helped by new technologies in neurosurgery.

FACIAL PAIN AND HEMI-FACIAL SPASM

Some patients have one sided facial pain otherwise called trigeminal neuralgia or tic douloureux. This is a severe condition and can be intractable. Most people can be treated with medication but in more severe cases micro surgical decompression can be very helpful. Similarly patients with hemi-facial spasms can be treated with microvascular surgery of the brain.

HYDROCEPHALUS

As our population ages there are conditions like normal pressure hydrocephalus that become obvious with difficulty in concentration, difficulty in walking and loss of bladder control with difficulty in memory. Such patients can be treated with shunting procedures and at times with new Endoscopic Neurosurgical procedures.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

After a serious work related or motor vehicle accident, patients may suffer from pain in the neck or lower back. At times this pain is due to injuries to the nerves and muscles. Sometimes it is herniated discs. Nuerosurgeons are trained to deal with these problems. In most cases they can be treated with conservative management treatments however Minimally Invasive procedures like nerve blocks, injections to reduce the swelling and percutaneous discectomy can be very effective.

SPORTS INJURIES

Sports injuries are usually traumatic in nature. Those that effect the nervous system, either due to direct or indirect trauma, can be managed by neruosurgeons and qualified orthopedic surgeons.
